Traffic isn't the problem. Most local-business websites convert 1% of visitors when they should convert 4–8%. Doubling conversion is almost always cheaper than doubling traffic.

What "conversion" actually means for a service business

Conversion is any moment a visitor tells you they're interested: a call, a form submission, a booking, a quote request, an email signup, a chat. Track all of them — most business owners only count leads that already turned into revenue, which hides the leaks.

The conversion equation

Conversions = Traffic × Motivation × Ability × Trust – Friction

Almost every "we need more leads" problem comes down to a broken variable, not a broken business:

  • Motivation: Is the offer clear and relevant to the person landing here?
  • Ability: Is the next step obvious and easy on a phone?
  • Trust: Is there enough proof to justify handing over a phone number?
  • Friction: How many fields, clicks, or unanswered questions stand between "interested" and "contacted"?

Five fixes that consistently double conversion

  1. Rewrite the hero to name the outcome and the audience in one sentence.
  2. Cut the form to 3 fields. Every field removed lifts submissions 5–15%.
  3. Move the phone number into the sticky header and add tap-to-call.
  4. Add a review widget above the fold with a real count.
  5. Speed up mobile — every 1s cut under 3s adds ~7% conversions.

What to measure

  • Homepage → CTA click rate
  • Service-page → form submission rate
  • Phone-click rate (mobile)
  • Form abandonment rate
  • Speed score on mobile

If you're only tracking "form fills," you're flying blind on 80% of the funnel.
